North Augusta is a prominent riverfront community whose past has been carefully preserved and whose future is vested in its citizens, young and old. The city offers beautiful parks, abundant recreational opportunities, exciting cultural and performing arts programs, and an exceptional education system. Known as the entrance to South Carolina and a town where everyone is welcome, North Augusta attracts visitors, new residents, and a growing retirement community.
North Augusta was one of 34 cities across the country selected as an All-American City in 2009. The All-American City program recognizes communities whose residents, businesses, governments and non-profit organizations work together to identify and solve community- wide challenges and achieve uncommon results. Perhaps the most visible sign of progress is the development of the city’s riverfront. North Augusta is the only city in South Carolina that is located on the Savannah River. Today, a golf course and upscale homes line the banks of the river and a recently revitalized downtown is expanding in that direction as well.
The Savannah River defines the city in many ways. It forms its southwestern boundary and serves the state line between Georgia and South Carolina. On the other side of the river sits Augusta, one of Georgia’s most progressive and fastest-growing cities. While the river obviously has important commercial uses, it is also a place to swim, fish, boat or just find some peaceful, quiet time. Situated 120 miles from the coast of Savannah, Georgia, North Augusta is insulated from coastal hurricanes and its location in southwestern South Carolina means that it enjoys pleasant weather year-round, with beautiful springs, long summers and very little freezing weather.
